OVERVIEW OF THE MAX AND NEO MARTINGALE COLLAR

Max and Neo is a US-based pet supply company. They offer a wide array of pet products, from toys and treats to collars and leashes. The company donates a collar to a rescue for each collar purchased.

For those unfamiliar, a martingale collar is also known as a no-slip collar. They have a larger loop that goes around the dog’s neck and a smaller loop that attaches to the leash.

When tension is applied, the collar tightens, preventing the dog’s head from slipping out of the collar.

It can also be used as a training tool as it applies slight pressure to the dog’s neck without the dangers of traditional choke collars.

Our trainer required a martingale-style collar, and after trying out many brands, we came upon the Max and Neo Stainless Steel Chain Martingale Collar.

I have found it to be high quality, durable, and the adjustment loop does not slip during use like most other martingale collars we tried. We’ve been using these as our everyday collars ever since.

WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW WE TESTED THE MAX AND NEO MARTINGALE COLLAR

We found a wonderful trainer when Gus was a puppy. Her methods focused on building a bond between dog and handler, as well as creating confidence in the dog without needing a constant supply of treats. She required a martingale collar as this was the main method of communication with the dog.

This was the first time I had used a martingale-style collar, and we initially purchased whatever was available locally.

We tried a number of different collars, but I was not completely happy with any of them. I found most of them were not sturdy enough to stay where I had adjusted them. They would extend during use, which makes them less effective as they need to be sized correctly to work.

I also felt they were all too thin width-wise and was looking for something with a wider band.

I came across the Max and Neo martingale collar and was impressed by the additional features that most other collars do not have. I purchased collars for both Izzie and Gus. We have used the collars as their everyday collars ever since.

We’ve used the collars for urban leash walks, hikes, multi-day backpacking trips, and everything in between.

The dogs also wear them as their everyday collars when we’re up north, and they have survived swimming in lakes and bushwacking through the Boreal Forest.

The reflective stitching can come in handy when using a headlamp to find the dogs on a late-night bathroom break. The lockable clasp provides additional peace of mind.

Most importantly, the adjustment on the strap does not slip and stays as set even with the dogs pulling or putting pressure on the leash. This means the collars stay sized correctly and keep working effectively at all times.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE HONEST

I believe the Max and Neo Stainless Steel Chain Martingale Collar is one of the best martingale collar options on the market today. The quality materials and additional features leave little to be desired with this collar.

I was immediately impressed with the quality of the materials used.

The nylon and chain are much more robust than most other martingale collars on the market, and I appreciate the 1” width of the webbing.

I’ve also found them to be incredibly durable, as they are still going strong after 3.5 years.

The only potential downside I could see would be that the collar material is nylon webbing and takes some time to dry out if it gets wet. However, this has never been an issue for us.

The dogs often wear their collars around the lake or while running through wet brush and forest. We’ve had no problems with them smelling or moulding.

IS IT WORTH YOUR MONEY?

I can confidently say that yes if you are in the market for a martingale collar, the Max and Neo Stainless Steel Chain Martingale Collar is worth your money. I highly recommend it.

If you are not looking specifically for a martingale-style collar, Max and Neo have numerous other collar options to check out, as well as leashes, harnesses and other pet products.
